Calvi is a French district situated in Alta Corsica. The city was inhabited only during Emperor Tiberius’ dominance; only in 1268 the Genoese recreated the city as a colony and still nowadays a variant of the Corsican language affected by the influence of Liguria dialect. The territory that surrounds Calvi is the region of Balagne, the Garden of Corsica, characterized by mountains, picturesque villages and beautiful beaches. The Genoese citadel, thanks to its position, dominates the sea and holds various place to visit, such as the Cathedral of St. Jean Baptiste and the church of Sainte Marie Majeure, built in baroque style.
