SeaFrance was founded in 1996 and since then is the only French company operating on the English Channel between Calais (France) and Dover (England). With over 15 departures per day (1h30m crossing) is handling 3,800,000 passengers a year.

The company employs a total of 1,700 employees, including crew and is the main activity in the city of Calais. Its British subsidiary, SeaFrance Limited based in Dover, employs approximately 200 employees.
